An Opening Session You Won’t Want to Miss

This has been an incredible year for advances in interprofessional practice and education. Three major reports were published in the first four months of 2019, each addressing cornerstones of quality interprofessional education and practice: accreditation, interprofessional clinical learning environments and education-practice integration. These reports represent the movement into action of conversations that started, in part, with Conversation Cafes at earlier Nexus Summits. That movement to action was our goal – and we’re proud to bring you the fruits of tremendous collaboration in key sectors of interprofessional practice and education.

In the Nexus Summit 2019 opening session, The World Conversation Café on Sunday, August 18, the architects of these three landmark reports from the Health Professions Accreditors Collaborative (HPAC), the National Collaborative for Improving the Clinical Learning Environment (NCICLE) and the National Academy of Medicine Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professions Education will share the stage to highlight the implications of these reports for the academic and practice communities and their leaders.

Then the ball is in your court! Nexus Summit 2019 is highly interactive – focused on practical, local action. Armed with the key messages of the reports, every person at the World Conversation Café will talk to their table neighbors about strategies to “try this at home.” We anticipate a lively exchange of ideas to be continued throughout the conference.

We have structured the World Conversation Café so that the topics and themes you’ll hear are woven throughout the whole Nexus Summit. You can choose to attend workshops, Lightning Talks, the Nexus Fair and Poster Session, and this year’s new Conversation Cafes to learn best practices or create your own. The Patient and Family Panel will be visible in all sessions to make sure we keep the patient and family voice front and center.

We promised you a different Nexus Summit. We plan to deliver – starting with the World Conversation Café and every step of the way through to the closing Awards Celebration and Luncheon. You won’t want to miss this kick-off to celebrate collaboration and help shape the action ahead!
