Colleen Koszelak is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Nursing Simulation at D’Youville School of Nursing. She has a B.S. degree in nursing from University at Buffalo and a master’s of science from D’Youville. She ia also a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE). Colleen has been a registered nurse for 29 years and has specialized in neonatal intensive care. Along with attending multiple conferences on simulation in nursing education, she is involved in interprofessional education using simulation.After becoming a master trainer in TeamSTEPPS with a team of colleagues, they are developing IPE curriculum for students, as well as training all college employees in TeamSTEPPS training.

Avoidable medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the United States; patient safety should be at the forefront of any institution that graduates health care providers. D’Youville has responded to this crisis and accreditation standards through robust interprofessional education curricula, delivered to over 800 students a year from eight different health professional programs. D’Youville is planning construction of a health professions HUB, projected to open in the fall of 2020 and will include an inter-professional community clinic, workforce development, and simulation.
