Podcasting by Design: From Confabbing to Learning - A Guide to Making Your Podcast a Valuable and Practical Resource
Tuesday, August 20, 2019, 9:45 am - 11:15 am
Northstar Ballroom
Project overview:
The Center for Advancing Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research (CAIPER) at Arizona State University’s Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation, put out an interprofessional health podcast: CAIPER Confabs. Our podcast team will be providing a dynamic and interactive venue for individuals from across the education and practice spectrums to learn from the design and creation of learning materials derived from podcast episodes. Participants will explore the potential benefits and barriers to the implementation of podcasts as professional development for all learners. Aspects related to design, production, dissemination, and evaluation will be covered with an emphasis on strategic alignment to desired learning objectives.
Podcasts are well-positioned as an accessible medium for dissemination and provide a flexible platform for anytime/anywhere, self-directed learning. Podcast consumption rates have been steadily increasing in the US, including within academic environments where they have been gaining recognition as a viable option for delivering high-quality learning and professional development experiences.
Describe resource/outcomes to be shared:
The CAIPER Confabs Podcast will be shared as well as an exemplar learning guide that our team created as a companion piece to the podcast episodes. This learning guide is a practical tool for helping faculty and preceptors incorporate episodes into their unique curricula. In addition, attendees will be invited to observe a live demonstration of the recording of a CAIPER Confabs episode.
Describe how participants will be able to apply the knowledge gained once back in their own environment:
Nexus Fair attendees will walk away with resources and perspectives on how to develop or augment interprofessional learning experiences through the medium of podcasting.
