Sonal Batra, MD, MST is a physician and assistant professor in The George Washington University's (GW) Department of Emergency Medicine. Her interests include health professions education, community engagement, and social mission. She serves as associate residency director for GW’s emergency medicine residency program and as global health faculty for the department's post-graduate training programs. Dr. Batra previously served as a board member of the Beyond Flexner Alliance, an organization committed to expanding the role of social mission in health professions education. She earned an MST from Pace University, MD from Northwestern University, and completed her residency training in Emergency Medicine at GW.

The Social Mission Metrics Self-Assessment is a national survey that allows dental, medical, and nursing school leaders to measure their school’s social mission. Social mission is the “contribution of a school in its mission, programs, and the performance of its graduates, faculty and leadership in advancing health equity and addressing the health disparities of the society in which it exists,” as defined by the Beyond Flexner Alliance.
