Dr. Shirley Dinkel is nationally certified as both an FNP and ANP. For over 20 years, her professional practice has been in the care of the medically indigent and other vulnerable populations. She is currently Associate Dean of Graduate Programs at Washburn University School of Nursing. Dr. Dinkel has served in multiple interdisciplinary roles including Principle Investigator for the Classroom to Community: Implementing Patient-Centered Care in Public Housing program and Director of Student Health Services. She is an active board member for several community organizations, including Pine Ridge Family Health Center Advisory Council.

Interprofessional education is foundational to creating a health care team prepared to improve patient outcomes, however, patients and families are often absent from the educational setting.
