Dr. Phung On is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at MCPHS University, School of Pharmacy-Boston. She is co-coordinator of the Pharmacotherapeutics Seminar Course for pharmacy students in their third professional year. Dr. On also maintains a clinical practice as a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist in Transitions of Care at the Barbara McInnis House, a medical respite facility for the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program in Boston, MA.

Background: The opioid crisis requires coordinated effort from health professions educators to provide students from all disciplines with the tools and skills to recognize potential opioid abuse and to effectively mitigate risks associated with controlled substances. Health practitioners must also be able to educate patients at elevated risk, recognize the signs and symptoms of opioid overdose, and administer naloxone when clinically indicated.
