@MargieArnett is an Interprofessional Education Specialist with the Center for Interprofessional Transformative Healthcare. She coordinates large interprofessional events at University of Arizona Health Sciences such as: Patient Safety, Pandemic Flu, Disabilities, Team Behaviors and the CLARION competition. She has research interests in interprofessional education, diversity in healthcare, social media in health education, tobacco dependence education. She was principal investigator of a number of research projects including the Dental Pipeline, Profession & Practice grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. She received a number of awards for her volunteer work, including Citizen of Achievement, and Woman of Distinction from the CA State Senate & Assembly.

Workshop Description: We will describe two examples of events (disabilities event and patient safety event) focused on patient-centered, interprofessional healthcare and shared decision-making that seek to broaden learner perspectives on disabilities and patient safety. Both events incorporate patients/families and community members in interprofessional activities. Presenters will discuss pre-event surveys and post-event feedback concerning how community inclusion led to engaging and successful learning experiences, including enhanced respect and value for shared decision-making.
