Dr. Lori Edwards graduated with her BSN from Washburn University in 1988, her MSN from the University of Kansas in 1998, and her DNP from Washburn University in 2017. For the first 10 years of her nursing career, she worked in adult critical care areas for the Veteran’s Administration and a local Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Currently, she is enjoying a blend of Assistant Professorship for the School of Nursing at Washburn and practicing as an Adult-Gerontologic Nurse Practitioner for Student Health Services. She also volunteers as an adult primary care provider at a neighborhood health clinic.

Interprofessional education is foundational to creating a health care team prepared to improve patient outcomes, however, patients and families are often absent from the educational setting. Faculty from the School of Nursing, Department of Communication Studies, School of Business, and Department of Social Work collaborated to create a Poverty Simulation designed to engage students from all programs, residents from public housing, and academic-practice partners.
