Lawrence Baer has been a Principal Investigator, a Co-Investigator, co-author, and/or consultant on more than 100 projects. Previously the Director of Research for Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Grand Rapids, he is now an independent consultant with more than 30 years of experience assisting a broad spectrum of investigators design and analyze a wide variety of research and evaluation projects in the fields of health care, health care education, social services and basic sciences. Additionally, through service on several Institutional Review Boards, he has demonstrated skills in the practical limitations and regulatory requirements related to human subjects research.

Background:
Medical scribe is an emerging health profession resulting from the increasing complexity of electronic medical records and demand on providers. Created in 2015, the GVSU Scribe Academy, a partnership with Grand Valley State University and Helix Scribe Solutions in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was designed to integrate a scribe workforce into interprofessional teams at local emergency departments. The Academy curriculum is 80 hours including theory and clinical training.
