Kathryn Jan is a MD/MPH candidate at UT Southwestern Medical Center and is currently a part of student government at this institution as Co-Interprofessional Education Representative. She received her BA at Washington University in St. Louis, double majoring biochemistry and anthropology. With her interest in medical education and interprofessional collaboration, Kathryn has served as president of the Interprofessional Leadership Committee and led a group of students in revamping an interprofessional activity.

Background: Teamwork and interprofessional collaboration are paramount to preventing medical errors and improving patient safety alongside health outcomes. Interprofessional education (IPE) develops students’ skills in preparation for the clinical environment and collaborative practice. However, IPE activities have been described by some students as “irrelevant” or “unengaging” in post-evaluations.
