Judith A. Savageau, MPH

Judith Savageau is an epidemiologist and biostatistician with over 25 years of experience on funded research, as a PI, a Co-investigator, an Evaluator, etc. She brings a wealth of experience working on curriculum development, faculty development, and education in the health professions field. Ms. Savageau is engaged with medical education efforts at all levels: UME (medical student), GME (residency training), and CME (faculty development) and has been funded at the local, state, regional and national levels. She teaches at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (in an interprofessional course with medical and graduate nursing students) and directs the school's Senior Scholars Program. In addition, she serves on the medical school's Institutional Review Board (IRB) and provide consultation in the ethical conduct of research within her home institution as well as providing workshops on this topic at national conferences. As a member of several curriculum committees at the medical school, she is well positioned to serve as an evaluator/faculty member of the Center for the Integration of Primary Care and Oral Health identifying opportunities for both interprofessional education as well as interprofessional practice.

Since the release of Oral Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General in 2000, primary care educators and clinicians have been encouraged to embed interprofessional Oral Health (OH) competencies across education programs. In 2000, the Surgeon General’s landmark report on ‘Oral Health in America’ prompted a sense of urgency for primary care education to increase provider understanding, skills, and ownership of oral health (OH) care. Primary care clinicians including physicians, PAs, nurses, pharmacists, and dental professionals are now working to embed oral health and interprofessional practice competencies across their education programs.
