Jennifer Mandal is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco. In addition to her clinical practice in rheumatology, she serves as Medicine Faculty Lead for Program in Interprofessional Practice and Education, and the Program Director of the Education Science and Curriculum Development Fellowship. Her areas of research include teaching and assessment of interprofessional communication skills, feedback among inteprofessional teams, and promoting student engagement in curriculum development.

The goal to prepare healthcare professionals to communicate and collaborate effectively across professions is widely endorsed, but achieving this goal in real time in the clinical learning environment requires educators who can skillfully coach communication and collaboration on the fly, including addressing challenging issues such as group dynamics, hierarchy, and mutual respect.
