Hai-Uyen Nguyen is a medical student at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Biochemistry at Rice University. She is president of the Mental Health and Wellness Committee, is involved in the Interprofessional Leadership Committee, and serves as Co-Interprofessional Education Representative at UTSW. Her interests include promoting longitudinal care with patients that incorporates physical, mental, and social aspects of health for holistic care.

Background: Teamwork and interprofessional collaboration are paramount to preventing medical errors and improving patient safety alongside health outcomes. Interprofessional education (IPE) develops students’ skills in preparation for the clinical environment and collaborative practice. However, IPE activities have been described by some students as “irrelevant” or “unengaging” in post-evaluations.
