Dr. Gwenn Scott RN, DNP, FNP-BC is an assistant professor at the UTMB School of Nursing in the gradute family nurse practitioner program. Dr. Scott graduated from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa with her doctorate in nursing practice. She's been involved in the development of inter-professional education at UTMB for the past 2 years. She also serves on the inter-professional curriculum committee for all of the UTMB schools. In addition to her full-time faculty position at UTMB, she also works part-time in the UTMB urgent care clinics.

Health literacy is defined as the “capacity to obtain, process, and understand health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions.” Inadequate health literacy leads to more emergency department visits, readmissions to hospitals, less preventive care, and poor medication administration skills.
